It feels like just yesterday that I woke up on a whim and decided to start the Landscape Horticulturist apprenticeship. I first heard of the program while studying for my Bachelor of Applied Science in Horticulture at @oldscollege. After completing that degree, I gained hands-on experience working with Landscape Horticulturist Journeymen at Parkland Nursery in Red Deer. But it wasn’t until I returned to Canmore and started working with Andrew and @threesisterslandscapecompany that I really discovered my passion for landscape construction and maintenance.

I realized, this was my career path. So, one morning, I went into work and asked Andrew if he’d sponsor my apprenticeship—without really knowing what that involved. Around the same time, I also decided to start my own business, with only a vague idea of what it would take but a strong desire to take on my own projects.

After challenging the first-year apprenticeship test, failing, and trying again, I finally earned my Red Seal and the title of Journeyman. Now, four years into my business and about to start my first solo season of snow clearing, I couldn’t be more excited or grateful for the journey ahead.

A huge thank you to Andrew and @threesisterslandscapecompany for sponsoring me, supporting me, and giving me all the advice and time I needed along the way. And to @oldscollege, for being the best college in the province with some of the most incredible educators around.

Moral of the story: Step into the unknown—you might just find the treasure.

The clients stoked, I'm stoked, how can you not be stoked with colours and flowers like these?! Chrysanthemums coming through to keep the show going even as the days get shorter and the nights get colder.
I love the combination of the chrysanthemums and the pennisetum grass. The pennisetum almost looks like corn and provides the perfect backdrop to highlight the chrysanthemums colours.

Soo close. I've been working on this landscape with my mentor @threesisterslandscapecompany for a 2 years now and it's almost complete. Everything you see here is on top of a 3 story retaining wall, all of this land used to be nothing but a hillside.
